I have spent more than 40 years in aesthetic technology, selling it, owning it, and managing it. Most of what I am proud of was a team effort, working alongside good manufacturers, good people at Alderm, and physicians willing to build something with us. Over about twenty years we introduced technology from Sweden, Germany, Denmark, South Korea, China, and Italy, and together we sold more than $20 million in lasers, light sources, and related systems. We were fortunate to back the right technology at the right time, and each product we took to national distribution opened the door to the next one. We also helped bring a hair restoration technology, NeoGraft, to market.
I mention that for one reason. I have watched this industry from the inside for a long time, and I have seen how practices actually buy equipment.
What I learned as a rep
As a rep, I watched most salespeople try to sell the doctor anything and everything. I took a different approach. I only carried the best technology from the best manufacturer for the procedure that mattered at that moment, and I paired it with a marketing plan so the physician could actually succeed with it. The leading procedure changed almost every year, so the technology had to earn its place, and the practice had to have a real strategy to see a return quickly. That is the habit I built the company on.
The problem I kept running into
Most practices do not have a clear way to compare one laser or technology against another. Reps come in, sell too much up front, and bury the physician under large payments. And too often the bigger brand name is not the most efficient system for that practice to use day to day. The buyer ends up paying for the name and the sales machine around it, not for the technology.
Why we started Alderm Direct
We started Alderm Direct to fix that. The idea is simple. Offer aesthetic practices genuinely good technology at a good price, and back it with the marketing and service they need to grow. We keep the price down because of what we leave out. No salespeople, no middlemen, no trade shows, and no large management teams. What you pay for is the technology and the support behind it, not the channel selling it to you.
That is who we built this for. The independent physician or medspa that wants solid technology, real service, and honest help growing the practice, without the runaround.
A word on brand names and price
Brand names in the aesthetic world come with a big price tag. That price does not always reflect the technology. It buys consumer confidence more than it buys performance. Many of the lesser-known brands offer the same technology at a considerable savings. My advice has not changed in 40 years. Buy the system that fits your practice and your patients, not the biggest logo.
Service is part of the product
Service matters on anything you buy, and it matters more on a laser. Lasers need service; many other devices do not. Most large companies sell an extended warranty to build confidence and then step back when it ends. My companies have always done the opposite and stood behind what we sell after the warranty is over. The HR-LASE™ (FG2000B) carries a two-year warranty, and we offer continued service after that period ends.
What the HR-LASE is
The system itself is the HR-LASE™ (FG2000B). It is a versatile diode hair removal laser with three FDA cleared wavelengths, 808 nm, 755 nm, and 1064 nm, so it treats hair across every Fitzpatrick skin type. All three wavelengths live in a single handpiece. It is small, portable, easy to learn, and easy to operate. For a medspa or aesthetic office replacing an older system, it is a natural fit.
I want to be clear about what this is and is not. We did not invent a new technology. Diode laser systems have been around for more than thirty years. What we offer is a compact, capable diode laser that covers large areas quickly. The powerful laser offers over 100 J/cm², and with our cooling system we can deliver energy to specific areas with little or no pain. You can set the cooling to suit each patient.
Technology alone does not grow a practice
Because technology alone does not grow a practice, we help on the demand side too. We partner with a digital marketing group that brings qualified patient leads to the practice. In a typical launch, that runs on the order of 60 leads over a 90 to 120 day period, depending on your market and budget. We also help offices put the right person in place to close procedures and handle the money conversation. Good technology and a real plan to use it. That is the combination I always believed in.
If you are weighing Alderm Direct against a brand-name system, here is what I would tell you. Buy the technology that fits your practice and the patients who walk through your door, not the biggest logo. Then call us and request a quote. You will get an honest answer, and a real number, on that call.
